Student film wins prize

Carl Colglazier, a seventh-grade home-school student from Cary, is a second-prize, middle-school winner in C-SPAN's 2010 StudentCam competition.

Carl will receive $1,500 for his documentary, "Wasting Waste."

The national competition, now in its sixth year, invited all middle school and high school students to produce a five- to eight-minute documentary focusing on American issues.

Students overwhelmingly focused on challenges facing America, addressing issues such as health care and the economy.

The top 27 videos will air on C-SPAN starting on April 1 about 6:50 a.m.

The video screening will be followed by an interview with the winning student filmmaker during C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" show.
